Sally Reeves
I have gained much experience working with a diversity of clients in my roles as fitness advisor and personal trainer firstly at Bannatynes Broadstairs and now at elite fitness studio. My qualifications include CYMCA Personal Trainer Award, BSc Fitness Science Degree (hons) and Masters by Research post-graduate degree, in progress. Concurrent with working at the fitness gym I also teach children’s swimming lessons for Thanet Leisure Force and run lessons for Margate Swimming Club, where I am also assistant coach. Moreover, I undertake private swimming lessons locally for adults and children of all abilities in small groups and one to one. Alongside my ongoing studies at the University of Greenwich I demonstrate and assist teaching some of the practical labs the under graduate students attend as part of their degree programmes. These include fitness assessment and testing, and exercise prescription. The progression of my personal training portfolio makes my work at the gym stimulating and varied. Not only does it put my knowledge and capabilities to the test but it also allows me to meet and get to know interesting people from different walks of life. Among the people I have trained include those recovering from injury and illness; members who have never trained before and lacked confidence in the gym environment; women returning to or starting training following having a baby; and older clients who needed more gentle persuasion to develop their exercise programme in order to achieve better health and fitness. Experience has shown that PT encouraged individuals to develop the self-motivation and skills they required to attain their fitness goals sooner. It also allowed the opportunity to educate individuals as to how and why particular exercise(s) could improve their health and fitness (both physical and mental), and therefore their quality of life. Furthermore, for the more advanced exercisers personal training for a specific sport could enhance performance and/or training of their sport. Moreover, PT does not have to be confined to the gym. In my spare time I like to maintain fitness by cycling, walking, running and swimming. Of course I make good use of the facilities here at the fitness studio, keeping my weights programme updated experimenting with new ideas as well as traditional techniques. Periodically adopting a different training method for a combination of resistance and cardiovascular work forces the body to constantly adapt to the new challenges and keeps my regime fresh and interesting, thus sustaining my own motivation. |
